How The New Florida PIP Law Affects Motorist’s Rights

Seek an Auto Injury Chiropractor Within Two Weeks of Accidents

If you’re injured in an auto accident injury and need to seek chiropractic care, it’s vital you do so within two weeks of the accident.

That’s because Florida law stipulates that you must seek medical attention from a doctor, hospital or auto injury chiropractor within 14 days of the incident to fully utilize the maximum amount of benefits available to you. Otherwise, your personal injury protection (PIP) carried as part of your auto insurance won’t be maximized to it’s fullest potential. For instance, if treatment is sought within 2 weeks of an accident, $10,000 worth of medical benefits may be accessible to you, whereas if treatment is sought after 2 weeks, only $2500 may be accessible to you.

These factors are a result of a 2013 Florida state law that attempted to prevent insurance fraud. The result has been a shorter window of time for injured motorists to seek their maximum amount of medical benefits.

Why Should You Get Medical Treatment Quickly?

Even if you feel like your injuries aren’t that bad, it’s important to let an auto injury chiropractor evaluate your condition within the 14-day window. Your symptoms could always get worse as time passes and without a visit to a chiropractor within two weeks of the accident, you won’t be able to rely on your PIP to pay for the maximum amount of care you may need.
