Back pain presents itself in many forms for several reasons, and can be severely debilitating, affecting every aspect of your life: work, home, and time spent with family. We treat patients suffering from upper (cervical) back pain, middle (thoracic) back pain, and lower (lumbar and sacral) back pain. Dr. Raveling also treats patients experiencing pain due to sciatica, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, bulging or herniated discs, acute or chronic injury, or pain due to other conditions like scoliosis.
In addition to pain caused by disease or spinal disorders, you may also experience back pain from stress. Stress presents itself in three different forms: physical, emotional, and chemical. Physical stress can be due to an injury at work, in sports, or in a car accident. It can also be caused by something as simple as sitting behind a desk hunched over a computer all day. Emotional stress includes any feeling which might cause tension in the muscles, such as anxiety, worry, fear, or nervousness. Chemical stresses are found in some of the foods we eat in the form of preservatives or unnatural food additives. Chemicals in the air pollution put stress on the body, as well as harmful chemicals found in everyday items like certain plastics or household cleaners.
When the body encounters these stresses, the spine often goes out of normal alignment. This is known as a subluxation of the spine (misaligned vertebrae). When the spine loses proper alignment, it puts pressure on the nerves running through the spinal column, causing pain in various forms (aching, numbing, stabbing, burning, radiating, etc.). In addition to causing pain, spinal subluxations can lead to a host of additional issues like increased inflammation, improper function of the digestive system, and a slowed immune system.
Natural Pain Management with Chiropractic Care
At Raveling Chiropractic Center, we understand the struggle back pain causes, and offer natural relief. Unlike over the counter or prescription medications which only mask the symptoms of a larger problem and come with their own side effects, chiropractic care treats back pain (in its many forms) at the source. Using spinal adjustments, massage therapy, corrective exercise, and/or physical therapy, our chiropractor, Dr. Paul Raveling, helps patients eliminate pain and resume their normal lifestyles.
Spinal adjustments restore the spine’s proper alignment, taking pressure off of nerves and local muscle groups. This relieves back pain and promotes healing by increasing circulation. Increased circulation accelerates healing and reduces inflammation. Used together, our chiropractic services help patients by aligning the spine, increasing circulation, accelerating healing, relaxing muscle tension, strengthening key muscle groups, preventing injury, and relieving or eliminating back pain.
During a patient’s first consultation, interview, and spinal screening our chiropractor will make a diagnosis and prescribe a unique wellness plan to best treat each patient. Using a combination of our chiropractic services, Dr. Raveling effectively treats patients’ pain at the source, helping you resume a normal, active lifestyle.
